Good day, Ladies and Gentlemen,
I learned the essence of what is to follow from Fritz Perls...extrapolated, embellished, integrated by me into my own particular brand of 'neo-psychoanalytic thinking....
We all have 'gaps' and 'obsessions' in our personality -- both usually brought on in our early childhood years (particularly between 3 and 7) -- by what might be called 'narcissistic fixations' and/or 'narcissistic injuries (trauma)...

These are diagnosable either by interpreting a person's earliest conscious childhood memories, his or her early encounters and relationships, and/or by group or individual here-and-now behavior patterns (such as in therapy sessions or open subject forums -- even internet ones that allow no human visibility -- like this one)...When certain gaps or obsessions expose themselves in a person's behaviour, we can be reasonably sure that there is an underlying early childhood transference memory, a set of 'co-operating' memories, and/or relationships that match up to the here and now 'TICs' (gaps and/or obsessions) that show 'homeostatic imbalances' in a person's personality....
We talk about Bipolar Disorder -- as if there is only one -- and yet there are probably thousands of possible different types of bipolar disorders in the mind and body -- this is the essence of the medical model...
Too much 'yin', not enough 'yang'....
All voice, no ears...
All ears, no voice...
All thinking, no heart...
All heart, no thinking...
Too much aggression, not enough aggression..
Too much directness, not enough directness...
Too much Persona, not enough Shadow...
Too much Shadow, not enough Persona...
Too much Superego, not enoughId. ..
Too muchId. ..not enough Superego...
Too much thinking, not enough action...
Too much action, not enough thinking...
And of course the now standard psychiatric name for the old 'Manic-Depression'....and its four different types...

David Bain • Any one of these 'Bipolarity Disorders' can chronically and/or acutely undermine, sabotage, self-destruct a person's normal Cycle of Organismic Self-Regulation...and thus, his or her Homeostatic (Dialectic) Balance....
GAP -- as well as standing for 'Gestalt-Adlerian-Psychoanlaysis'....also stands for the gaps mentioned above in our personalities, and also the 'gaps' that exist in all of the different schools or brands of psychological thinking...
DGB -- stands for 'Dialectic-Gap-Bridging (Negotiations, Interactions, Integrations, Creations, Solutions, Resolutions...)
I'm also playing with the acronym 'ASIF' -- Alternative-Supplementary-Integrative-Friendly....
We all live in an 'ASIF World' -- (although some of us don't know it) -- As If Our World is The One and Only World of Truth and Value -- when we all should be open to new perspectives, theories, models, paradigms, in learning....becoming more and more comfortable stepping in and out of different, functional paradigms that help us -- and our clients -- to achieve a better overall and evolving system of Organismic Self-Regulation...and resulting Homeostatic-Dialectic Balance....
Until we do -- and partly out of resistance to fear of failure and/or rejection -- we will all to greater or lesser extents, 'hang on' to our 'gaps' and our 'obsessions' and our 'TICs' and our beliefs, our values, our theories, our perspectives, our paradigms -- and usually challenge anyone who challenges them or us...
This is what Perls called a 'Hanging On Bite'...
Sometimes a hanging on bite can be functionally important....
Such as Martin Luther King hanging onto the principle of 'equality for everyone, regardless of color, sex, race, or nationality...
Or hanging onto the principle of 'ethical integrity'...
At other times,
We may be looking for more evolutionary flexibility, tolerance, creativity, and interactive-integration....
Context rules!
Cheers!
